Frequently Asked Questions

The Answers You Need

Is Brook Ridge Preparatory a full-time school?

No. We are a homeschooling collaborative/program designed to support and supplement your home education. We provide the community, core instruction, and accountability, while parents remain the primary educators.

What is the "Charlotte Mason" influence?

We use "Living Books" (high-quality literature) instead of dry textbooks. We also value short lessons to maintain focus, nature journaling, and the practice of "Narration" to ensure students truly digest what they learn.

How do you handle technology?

We believe technology is a tool, not a teacher. In elementary years, we prioritize tactile learning and books. In high school, we introduce tech for research, digital literacy, and professional production.

Do you offer grading and transcripts?

For high schoolers, we offer guidance to help parents compile transcripts for college admissions.

How do you balance "Rigor" with the Charlotte Mason "Gentle" approach?

We believe rigor and wonder are not mutually exclusive. Our academic standards are high, but we avoid "busy work." We focus on high-quality Living Books and deep discussion rather than standardized workbooks. This allows students to engage with complex ideas without the burnout associated with traditional rote-learning environments.

How do you integrate "Modern" skills into a "Classical" curriculum?

While we are rooted in tradition, we are not stuck in the past. We teach students to use modern tools (like research databases and digital composition) through the lens of Logic and Rhetoric. For example, a student might use modern software to create a presentation, but the content of that presentation must follow the classical rules of persuasive argument and ethical communication.

Where can I purchase the books?

We will provide links to the direct website of the publishers for all books. Many families purchase used curriculum at various homeschool supply rooms and conventions.

Can I schedule a Co-op visit?

Yes, we will have multiple dates to tour the Church facility before and during the school year.

What else does Brook Ridge Preparatory have to offer?

We offer support through community involvement with field trips and other planned events. Throughout the school year we will have events for each age range to further connect students in and outside of the learning environment. We also will have planned times for moms to fellowship with one another.

How you will you support me as a parent?

We provide tailored lesson plans for each grade group. We also provide weekly email updates for at-home days.

What is it like to be a part of Brook Ridge Preparatory?

At Brook Ridge Preparatory, you will be involved in a community of Christians to venture through your homeschooling journey. We encourage the fellowship of all families to strengthen our community as a whole.

What are the parental requirements?

We ask participation from our families on the days we meet to encourage a successful Co-op. Please email our director with any questions.

What is your statement of faith?

We are a Christian community. Our instruction is rooted in a biblical worldview, emphasizing the development of Christian character and the pursuit of God’s truth in all subjects.
